Show SPORT SHOTS From The Beehive By Alan Hanline It seems that every time a team or school starts losing thc-igames the whole town jumps on them. But on the other side, if a team is winning, everyone is willing to cooperate with them. Back in 1945 Box Elder took the State football championship by a score of 13 to 0. In 1946 they did it again, 33 to 7, and the basketball team was beaten only by three points in the "big game the same year. Since then Box Elder has taken the back seat in sports and have been criticised ever since. But there is more to sports than just going to state r Jaycees Dump Wasatch Lime The Brigham City Junior Chamber of Commerce made a return visit to Ogden to play the Wasatch Lime quintet and defeated them (for the second time 59 to 49. The Wasatch Lime team rules the roost in the Independent lpague and pushed the Jaycee team before dropping the decision. Hess led the scoring for the Jaycees with 17 points while- - Nicholas and Rasmussen followed with 11 and 10 respecf tively. The top scoring man for the evening was Cullimore of Wasatch Lime, with 19 points. The Jaycees are entered in two tournaments this month. They go to Morgan on the 10th of March and start all over again in a tournament in Wells- - every year. Coach Ferguson has always stood for clean and fair play in every game, and has showed it in the games they have played, even in the physical education classes, and in all the sports at Box Elder. Every year there is the class series with such sports as volleyball, badswimming, table tennis, minton, and softball. All these games and activities at school make sports a major class. This year the basketball team has lost most of their games, but rather than criticise them we should pat them on the back for the clean play and fighting spirit. Region Slates Play-Of- f For State Berth Three teams in the Region ended up in a dead heat and for the second straight year have to have a pdayoff to determine which team will represent the loop in the state tournament. Logan, North and South Cache ended up in a third place tie with four wins and six defeats each. South Cache drew a bye and North Cache and Logan played their game last night Until the Utah High School Athletic association determines the status of Carbon, South Cache will not play. If Carbon doesnt rate a berth then South Cache will play the fifth place winner of the Big Eight for the right to enter the tournament. How these teams fare in their post season game will decide how many teams from this region will play in the classic. Bear River and Weber have IOX didnt Gordons deciand North Cache pulled the game out of the fire. A win or a loss wouldnt have meant a thing to Box Elder, but it gave North Cache a fighting chance to get into tournament. over-rul- Region 1 L- e ' Final Standings: Bear River 1 9 8 2 Weber 4 6 Logan North Cache 6 4 South Cache 4 6 Box Elder 1 9 JBear River finally made up for all the lean sporting years they have had by dumping Weber for the second time this year 41 to 39 to win the Region I crown. Weber notched a 13 to 10 lead at the end of the first period and held on to the three Point margin at the intermission as they lead 25 to 22.
