Mason) By Jimmy Avon and By Keith Nuttall and Eddie in their Wednesday night Ma-rott- a fight gave the fight fans something to talk about and thats just what they did all day yes terday. Every one had his own opinion and a majority of them were in favor of a draw decision Some of them leaned toward the little Cleveland puncher and some favored Keith as did the referee when he gave out the decision. The judges, however voted identical ballots giving Keith three rounds, Marotta three rounds and two a draw The referee took the fifth round draw decision by the two Judges and game it to Keith which was the margin of victory. Some 2,600 fans filed the Box Elder high school gym to wit ness one of the finest fight cards they have had the privilege to see. Ever thing was there including plenty of action and leather, and the only blot to the card was the discussion over the Maiotta-Nuttal- l bout. After Gary Nuttall of Brigham City fought a draw with Darwin Curtis of Ogden, the judges were excess baggage until the headline bout. The rest of the bouts ended in KOs with Connie Powell, negro from Salt Lake City flooring Jimmy Pesterius of Salt Lake in 1:08 of the third round Willard ChlpmHn . KOd Buck Kenny in 1:48 seconds of the third round, Chick Moriarity put Jack Lee to sleep in 1:45 seconds of the third round and the referee stopped the fieht between Paul Perkins and Sonny Kelly after 1:05 seconds of the fourth round awarding a TKO to Perkins. The fights were sponsored by the Brigham City Junior Chamber of Commerce. The next card is scheduled for Brigham City on December 3, with the return bout between Marotta and Keith Nuttall the main Many quite a aroused, one of fighters, ing dog SIDES consider the beaver harmless animal. The crowd didnt agree with be decision and I wasn't too pleased either. I wanted a clear-u- t decision and not a fence Tight. The next time these two boys meet Ill be here lo condition Keith and Im hoping that this match will he the real settling bout have an idea of how to light Eddie Marotta now, and tactics will be changed in hopes of removing any doubts between the two. A definite goal will be set, and that is to clear up any doubts at their next meeting as to which man is the winner I look for the return bout, which is scheduled for December 3 in Btigham City, to be the treatest fight ever staged in this city. Keith ha dlaid off boxing for several weeks because of the cut under his left eye and wasnt in top form. Next time, though, I'll see that hes In shape to put out eight rounds, if necessary, to end all doubts. It appeared at times that they were butting and using other tactics that are classified as dirty fighting, but that comes unintentionally during the heat of every close battle. There was about the same amount of these tactics used by each fighter. All fighters, from champs on down, have their off nights. We arent alibying. Weve had this happen to us now', and were on the lookout for it so it wont happen again, it will be under control next time and Keiths condition will be tops. We have planned several fights under this conditioning program to get Keith back in shape. Keith is scheduled in Salt Lake City with Bobby Tentative plans are for a fight in Kansas City against Larry Williams, a junior lightweight, but if this doesnt go through Keith will meet Buddy on in Washington Ogden Thanksgiving night. The officiating has come in for its share of criticism, and we are planning to make some changes. First of all the scoring will be counted by rounds and not points. There will be two judges and the referee, but it will be understood this time that the announcer will pick up the ballots immediately after the fight is over and announce he results. The delay at the end of this fight was veryy I Mo-lin- A pelican five feet long and weighing 25 pounds has a skeleton which weighs only 23 ounces. Let us Eddlo Marotta (As Told to D. M. Mason) The decision, which was given to Keith, was a bad deal. The ieferee stopped what would have been a great fight by hindering the actions of Eddie. There isnt such a thing as a clinch when one of the fighters has one hand free, but several times through the fight the reteree stepped in and broke the two fighters. "I dont mind Eddie said: fighting one man. but two is a little more than I can handle at one time in one ring. I was surprised at the dirty fighting that Keith put out. I boxed and sparred with Keith in Chicago when we roomed together during the Golden Gloves tournament, and I have never seen him fight like that before. "The cut over my left eye was opened with a butt from Keiths head. When we were separated Keith hit it with a looping overhand right and opened the cut even more. I took a lot of punishment from heeling and from shoulders, and when I asked Jimmy if I could go in there and fight his kind of fight, Jimmy wouldnt let me. I dont like to start that kind of fighting, but I can do it as well as the next guy if thats what he wants to do. If I had started that kind of stuff, the referee would have thrown me out of the ring and that would have been that. It was that anyway. Jimmy said: As long as my boy fought a good, clean fight, hell always be welcome back in Brigham City, but if he had adopted the dirty tactics it would have been suicide ever to try to fight in Utah. "We thrpw down three fights to come here for this fight. Im sorry we did now. We would rather fight Keith in Salt Lake City or any place else in Utah. Not that the people of Brigham City haven't been swell to us. but just for the sake of the fight. But now that things have turned out as they have, we want to come back if the right kind of a deal is made. Eddie said: "It doesn't make1 any difference where I fight him. I'd just as soon come back here and fight him in his own back yard; in fact I want to. The referee has no business going around and taking up the slips fro mthe judges. That was the job of the announcer or any other man in the ring, not one of the men that has anything to do with the decision. The way that things turned out, Norm Jorgensen took both slips and then put out his decision. "When we come back we will expect a better fight, a cleaner fight, and well do everything to see that the koxing public gets just that. Itll be a good fight, one that the people will like and want to see. -- lygiLxa, The Mighty UNIVERSAL TTOT rart?i 14 TO 6 which punts during the afternoon, kept Box Eider working hard but getting hut Diaayer's trusty toe, off some beautiful Box Elder Scores In Second And Third Quarters third quarter Draayer punted to Bee 12 where Powers was tackled immediately.
