I love to fill this space, as of Wednesday morning, on Monday morning. Especially when everyones happy and feeling good oil Monday morning. I dont know whats come over Mondays lately. Monday morning used to be a terrible time. When this strip came out every day, "Blue Monday used to be the regular subtitle for the second column of the week. ctxtoiial We II" Land" The Next One But lately, everybody seems to he happy on Monday. Its a great day. Maybe its just that we just get progressively busier, and farther behind with our work, as the week progresses. Monday being the first working day the week not having progressed very far as yet is a fine day. There are just as big industries in the East as have ever been caught Brigham City has lost Thermoid corporation, it appears. The company, planning to build a Westei factory costing from $750,000 to a million, and operating with a payroll of some 600 employees, gave Brigham MonCity and Nephi serious consideration. day it was announced the company had chosen Nephi as the site for the plant. Brigham City put up a whale of a good fight to get this industry. It was a wonderful thing to see the Chamber of Commerce, the mayor and city council and the county commissioners leaving no stone unturned, shooting all angles, doing everything possible to land this industry. Ine fact that it wasnt landed detracts not one whit from ine credit due them along with every Box Elder citizen upon whom they called for assistance for the splendid fight they put up. But there are other industries already making bid3 for Brigham City locations. If the Veterans administration delinitely decides not to operate Bushnell hospital, theres a chance that Brigham City and Box Elder county will be able to secure the vast plant. This will be a terrific inducement to industry a complete location available immediately. The industries of the United States are ! launched on a general program of decentralization. Theyre going to take the jobs to the employees, instead of trying to bring the employees to the job. Any city with the natural, geographic and social advantages enjoyed by Brigham City has better than a good chance of securing one or more of these industries. Brigham City never will be an industrial center. The major industries arent decentralizing in the East only to centralize again in the West. But well get our inperhaps, with Bushnell hospitals dustry physical plant, several of them and well probably get them before too long. Thermoid isnt the only industry planning to build a factory and operate it in the Wesr. One of them if the Chamber of Commerce, the city and the county carry on with the kind of effort of which theyre capable will locate in Brigham City. Prophecy For The O. P. A. ss (for that matter, is it yet?). "This, he says, is our prediction. The longer we keep the O. P. A. the worse we will need it. There will be no satisfaction from anything but total elimination of this wartime emergency measure. And if w are not rid of it in a year we never a ill be rid of it. Venturing further, we will say that this will never be the land of plenty again (or even enough) until the O. P. A. is dead. "Not that it will do any good, but we im ite readers to keep this on file for a year or two and it from time to time. re-re- ad An Honest Man Dont let me give the impression that everyones happy down here today.
