Why Enlistment Delwin J. Cobb, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Cobb of 539 north First east, is the latest Brigham City man to enlist in the regular army, according to Sgt. John E. Salyer of the Ogden army recruiting office, who is at the courthouse in Brigham City every Tuesday. Cobb cited the G. I. Bill of Rights as his reason for joining the army. r He chose the enlistment. Upon discharge, he will he entitled to 36 school months of college or trade school work at the trade school or college of his choice, at government expense. The government will pay up to $500 per ordinary school iyear for tuition, books, fees, etc. In addition, he will re-- i ceive S65 per month for living expenses if single and $90 per II month if married. There are vague allusions to such flimsy arguments as the one that Veterans hospitals must be near large centers and that Bushnell does not qualify. Bushnell is only an hour's drive from the heart of Utahs greatest city . . . from Logan. Take 3,000 patients to the 20 minutes from Ogden . . n half-hou- r doctor, or bring the doctor to the patients? A number of our countrys most distinguished medical men, representing virtually every field of specialization, have been working at Bushnell for three and one-hal- f years, and have unanimously pronounced its equipment and facilities the best, its surroundings highly conducive to the mental and physical rehabilitation of sick and wounded veterans of this war. . And these questions remain unaswered: Half-truthf- Doesn't the Veterans' administration need large, modern hospitals for the care and treatment of wounded and sick veterans? men entitled to the best treatment available, Aren't reasonably near their homes? If we are to repay our debt and fulfill our obligations to our boys who served, wont even Bushnell, with its 3,000-becapacity, be filled for years to come? Hasn't Bushnell's effectiveness been proven in three and a half years' operation? Aren't our taxpayers entitled to a $14,000,000.00 saving, when in effecting such a saving they are performing a better service to the boys who served now, when they need it most? As taxpayers, as citizens of Utah, as parents and friends of the boys who served, were entitled to the honest answers. Nothing but the finest materials went into the construction of buildings now threatened with being junked.
