It was the first night festival for senior high bands in many years, and many adults from all parts of the county were in attendance. All bands were introduced by their high school principals. One of the adjudicators, Dr. Steven W. Allen, was a former band director in the county. BOUNTIFUL AND View-moHigh Schools received superior (I) ratings based both upon their concert program and upon their ability to sight read. For both directors, this was their second straight superior ratings with Davis County Schools. Three kindergarten classes will perform. Also on the program will be a group of sixth grade girls who have been learning dance and march routines during the year, under the direction of fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Diann Davis. MRS. DAVIS and the girls have met once a week. Half of their practice time has been Dur-ban- o, during recess periods. The girls are learning body control, grace and charm to help them build self image and self expression. Officers for the coming year will be installed. Lola. Viewmont, Dean Wakefield is concluding his second year at Bountiful after a highly successful career in Southern California. THERE WERE 7 student compositions entered and Many of todays students are thinking about careers at the same time won- presented. After each presentation, Dr. Bradshaw, composition instructor at BYU, commented on the excellence of the composition and made suggestions for improve-ment- opportunities them. with THE SUBJECT of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, or the achievements of those who have sacrificed for or who have defended the principles proclaimed in these documents, which have helped to make this nation great. The contest will consist of four categories. An award will be given to the winner of each category. The more money received to sponsor the contest the more awards will be presented. THE categories are as follows: elementary school students up to age 12, $25 bond; junior high students $50 bond; senior age high school students, age $75 bond; high school graduates-adultage 19 and 14. Many changes have been taking place at Central, one of which is that the home ec. cooking room is being remodeled with new sinks, formica, and paint. The classes have had to travel to different classrooms and do other units than cooking, but the remodeled kitchen should be worth the temporary inconvenience. THE GIRLS basketball team won their third victory on March 24, against the Sunset Devils, on Centrals court. The final score was 40 to 14. On March 23 the Honor Society listened to a guest speaker, Paul Kulscar from Ogden. Mr. Kulscar is interested in the marital arts and studies them as a hobby. He domonstrated a few tactics in self defense, Judo and Karate, and actually had three girls (Kay Owens, Shelley Neville, and Ann h Neville) each break a one-inc- redwood board with their hands. Mr. Kulscar was very impressive and interesting, making the meeting worthwhile for all members who attended. THE CUBS traveling assembly was taken Thursday, March 25, to Kaysville Junior High, and on March 26 to North Layton.
