As was to be expected, the church group made arrangements to have their immediate needs taken care' of. Then, the Jaycees took the ball. With the cooperation of radio and television stations, everyone in the community was soon alerted to the needs of the homeless along with the information that the Jaycees would be at the city offices to accept and, later, distribute, items of clothing, bedding, money, foods to the needy. The response was terrific. The Jaycees and their wives worked hard and long, giving up their busy to help someone in need. It was a typical Jaycee project, entered into with spirit and enthusiasm and with no thought of the actual work involved. The Jaycees, foremost among civic groups, are able to roll up their sleeves and jump into a project demanding actual physical work. Part of the reason they do so well is because they are young and energetic. But, most of all, its because they are endowed with an understanding of a communitys or an individuals needs.
