And It was this expectancy tainly the almighty power of you, Gods people in God's God was present on the day house, that brought the words of Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Rv. Emil F. KrugUr Pattor, Trinity Lutheran Church What message from Gods Word can I bring to you this morning? What message to deepen your faith and increase your joy? This is the question I asked as I began to prepare for this morning From past experience I have learned that the crowds of Christmas Eve become the empty chairs o f Christmas morning. But what of those, regardless cf how few, I asked, who in the fulness of joy return once again to sing the praises of Him who is their Savior? In simple words, this morning I expected you to be here. I expected you to be here m God's House cn His great day because you are indeed God's people, the people God has led to the Knowledge that Jesus is By our text for this morning to my mind. The words of 1 TimWithwhich read: othy 3:16 out controversy, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glcry. These words take us back, back to tbe stable and manger of Bethlehem, back to the dg when the whole course of this world was changed, back to the day historians now use as the day upon which all history revolves as they write of so and so many years before Christ and so many years after Christ. Without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. For example: Why are you here in God's House this morning? Why did you leave your warm home, your comfortable bed, your easy chair, your dinner preparations, your TV football game? Why should I have expected you to come instead of doing what so many millions of others are doing this morning? The answer i s simple and it is right here in these words of our text: "Without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. In other words, the almighty power o f God has led you to come here this morning. The almighty power of God has given you the in Christ and the new-lif- e h the m Christ in Christ by which you now know Him as your Savior and in Christ by which the new-lif- e you are now dedicated to live not for yourself, but unto Him who lived for you and who died for your sins. Jtist try to imagine what your life would be without Christ! In the first place, without Christ you would be a lest and condemned sinner, hopelessly doomed to the eternal torments of hell. Without Christ, life to us would be nothing more than a day after day, dog eat dog existence with nothing different or better to look forward to. Certainly, no just, clear thinking person yill even begin to the point debate this point that Christ has changed the complexion of this whole world and of many of tbe individuals, in this world, including you and without contro-me Indeed, versy, great is the mystery of And godliness. just consider for a moment the greatness, the magnitude of the act by which this change was brought God was manifested in about: the flesh. In this whole world there was not a single just and holy person All had sinned. All had come short of the glory of God. All had built up, between themselves and the holy and just God, an unscalable wall, a wall of partition, a wall o f separation, a wall of sin that separated them here in time and forever throughout all eternity from the holy and just God. If man was to be saved, that wall cf sin would have to lie broken down, it would have to be taken away by someone holy and just. Since man was a sin-- t ner, he could not do this. The greatest of all miracles, thereGod fore, had to take place Himself had to become also a true man the Creator Him- self had to become also one of His own creations. In other words, God Himself leaped over the wall of sin that separated man eternally from Himself so that He could tear down that wall and take it out of the way. And just consider the great ness of the act that this then led to: Justified in the Spirit " While all others were born m sin and lived constantly in sin, the Savior had to be born without sin and live without sin. He had to be born of God.
