Show agricultural COLLEGE NOTES the department of horticulture will use thirty or forty acres of the central farm at lehi tor for experiments in fruit growing watch the results the agronomy staff are planning a series of experiments tor for the coming season on the rotation ot of crops and on forage crops special effort will be made to determine the value of peas and corn as forage crops the experiment station lately received a variety of holless barley grown in idaho at an elevation of SOO feet it is believed that it will prove a profitable ablo variety for conditions in utah both on the irrigated and the dry farms the station will determine its value by experiment this summer 1 prof dall ball lectured on spraying before the salt lake horticultural society at salt lake city on feb seven members of the faculty facility left the college feb to hold institutes in various districts of the state prest kerr and professors northrop and mclaughlin will visit nl eihl and later hold meetings along the line as tar far south as st george where they will hold forth for two days prot prof jensen clark boty and director Yo yoder derwill will spend two weeks in sanpete and juab counties professors stewart and and jardine and mr crockett will lecture before the farmers institute workers at smithfield dri on march 1st the commission appointed by the governo to investigate the duplication of borg in the university and the agricultural college visited the college on feb it is hoped that the report of the commission which is to be filed with the governor on july 1306 1906 will suggest a fea sable plan iian to settle the controversy thus avoiding the nu necessary expenditure of time and money at each recurring session of the legislature in useless contention the agricultural college has just reached the position where it can effectively aid the farmers of the state and it would indeed be unfortunate for them to have the growth or usefulness of their institution in any way curtailed or retarded |
