Pastor but Stevens is still selling now he is selling; his religion and gaining much more than lucrative remumeration for his services. . :s Pastor Stevens says that all the while he was in private enterprise before he decided upon the ministry as a better way of life, he vas discontent within himself, always having a longing to do and become something else Then he decided to give up his well established insurance business and turn to the professional ministry. .Since making that momentous decision, he has been lacking in some of the worlds goods that he certainly would have accumulated had.be continued in business bqt what he has gained in 'peace of mind and of soul, if you will, is of far greater importance than anything money can buy. In talking about his decision to become a minister, he says that, actually, he had known all his life, deep within himself that he was to be called to serve. Making the decision was only a minor step because the Die decision' had been there-el- l time. Actually, Reverend Stevens was ordained on aMy 8, in the First Baptist Church at Pomona, California;. A native d Alabama, Pasfdr Stevens was' graduated from high school Jii 1942 and became employed by the Birm ingham Trust' National Bank, .entered Alabama. In 1943 the Army and spent two years in Europe in the Medical Corps. Returning to civilian life in 1946, he entered the Life Insurance business in Fort Worth, Texas. On a business trip to Sacramento, he met the Hollywood Presbyterian Gospel Team and soon became a. member of that organization. Shortly after, he ' . . . V J W ? - M - became acquainted with the late Dr. John Bunysn Smith who introduced him to the Califorand nia 'I Baptist Seminary American Baptist -- Convention. He received the B, A. degree frbm the Seminarys Collegiate . Department. Layton is the first ministry he has pas to red. , Since coming to Layton, he has been delighted with the reception and. the many faithful people he hae met. He sometimes does substitute teaching particularly, teaching English at Davis High for several weeks this year. Ope of the requirements for a 'minister is that he have a and good natured charming wife, this last being as important as her other qualifications. Mrs. Stevens meets all the requirements , to perfection. Her home is a haven for her husband and four children and is, of necessity, 'also the office for the church and one of its meet- x ing places; - 'Mrs. Stevens is s charmer The four pretty and Stevens children are just as attractive and pleasing as you would expect them to be.
