Methods of testing the layers of soil are made more difficult by the tendency of the soil to cave in whenever holes are drilled to test." Mr. Brownscombe had a special screening system to try nut in the fields west of laiyton during' his three-da- y visit which permits water to drain into a pipe for measurement without interference from the unstable soil, clay or silt. With the special equipment the SCS hopes to lie able to determine the permeability of the soil for a particular area in order to advise the farmer on the size of tile needed and the distance to space it in placing it underground. Savings for Farmers The master drainage system will make it possible for many farmers in the county to drain parts of their farms wlrnh in the past have had to remain wet he-- 1 cause no outlet was available," Mr. Seaile pointed out. "In other words the information we are going after will mean dollar savings to our farmers.
