To my way of thinking the Editor has something there worth considering. Utahs Walter Granger is sponsoring a bill to make surplus government food such as milk, butter, eggs, cheese, potatoes, ete with the government paying transportation and repackaging costs, available to relief agencies. Why just relief agencies? I ask you, is there any one that needs relief more, with the constant raise in living costs, than the over taxpaying housewife. The biggest hoarder we have is our government with the great quantities of food they are holding and which are deteriorating every day. I do not believe that there is a family in our fair land that would not welcomelsome of these surplus as a relief in the raise in living costs. Many of the price raises are on commodities that the government are holding as surpluses. Are these surpluses going to be held till they are not fit for human consumption or are we waiting until artificial shortages are created sending retail prices still higher? If farm price support is necessary to keep our economic ship on an even keel then there must be some method that can be devised in using these surpluses in giving relief to those that need it most, the taxpaying housewife. Tbis past school term the government gave the school lunch program some of the surplus turkey crop they had on hand. These turkeys were a welcome gift. The sad part was that these birds had been improperly processed for long time cold storage and their quality had deteriorated considerable. These birds should have been released much sooner than they were to still be in prime condition. How many of the other surpluses are traveling down the same road. That is the sixty-fou- r dollar question. For the present we here at the LAYTON COLD STORAGE are making every effort to hold prices down as much as is physically possible and we will give you the best it is possible to offer. Remember, buy what you need for the near future but hoarding is not fair to your neighbor. Also remember LOCKER LIVING IS BUT TER LIVING FOR LESS MONEY. We are open evenings till 9:00 I.
