Show News About Folks in - Verdeland Park Library Project Shows Remarkable Progress VERDELAND PARK -l By DOROTHY MORLEY I Verdeland Park Community Library, instituted last February in the Community hall building, has shown remarkable progress during its 10 months of operation. The project occupies two rooms a lounge reading room And a circulation room. Starting with five shelving cabinets, th library has grown to 11 cabi books PARK VERDELAND I nets containing V variety of books inadult fiction and n termediate fiction and and childrens fiction. The number of books in circulation has almost tripled as the original number of books was 9H4 and the present amount is approxnon-fictio- n, non-fictio- 1 . t imately 1247 books from Verdeland Park and 1300 from Davis County. No charge is made for use of the books and regular library ruljs apply for overdues or damages.- Appreciation was expressed by the library committee to Mrs. Helen Parker Gibson, Davis County librarian, and her assistant, Mrs. Betty L. Beckstead, who coached the willing librarians last February and helped them establish the present, liDavis Counbrary procedure. supperiodically ty library plies this branch with current books, assuring a constant flow of good reading material. The Salt Labe Tribune-TelegraLibrary in Salt Lake City donated 200 novels and informative books last April. Miss Rose Jones of Salt Lake City, associated with the University of Utah, donated the past 10 years issues of the National Geographic Magazine. Other books have been purchased by the Resident association or donated by civic minded citizens of the park. m Registration of library patrons was begun last May in the Davis County library. Cataloging of the under subject and title was begun by the Verdeland Park librarians last August and will continue regularly in order to keep the files up to date. . Working consistently as chairman of this worthy project is Mrs. Earl Morris, who with her coworkers has kept the library opened for its ' regular scheduled hours. Mr. Morris has constructed filing cabinets and shelves as the need became apparent. Original funds for this library were obtained from dances sponsored last winter by the Resident association- - of VeTdeland ' park. Since September the project has been self supporting for its immediate needs. The Resident association, however, has purchased all shelving and cabinet materiels. Present $nd past workers of the Library include Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Grace Day, Mrs. Josephine Levine, n Mrs. Dessa Paulsen and Mrs. Pidd, Mrs. Stephen Lakatos, Mrs. Kendall Roundy, Mrs. Olive Thompson, Mrs. Erma Powell and Mrs. Irene Gattis. Mrs. Morris extends an invitation to anyone in the Layton vicinity to enjoy the facilities of the library. Most popular to date have been the appealing-sma- ll childrens fiction.
