W UTAH WILL MISS THEM It is with regret that we learn in the daily press of the apparent change in command at the Army Air Forces Basic Training Center at Kearns, scheduled for October 1. Press reports state that the base will no longer be used as a basic training center for the new recruits entering Uncle Sams armed forces, but will be an advanced training unit for the air corps. Utahns, particularly members of the press, both metroeditors, regret that Colonel Conpolitan and the home-tow- n verse R. Lewis and his staff will leave Utah, as is apparent ' ' under the new order. Members of the Utah State Press association were guests of Colonel Lewis and Kearns last winter, during their annual convention, and they were received most graciously g in their tour of the post. Other groups have received the same fine hospitality. On numerous other occasions, the commanding officer of the base has gone out of his way to assist individuals and groups in their problems. Colonel Lewis loves Kearns. He has watched it grow from a desolate prairie land to a place of beauty. From the very beginning, he has offered guidance and inspiration to the thousands of young men entering the army for the first time; this inspiration and counsel to be carried On by them jn their advanced training and ultimate combat duty for America. Yes, Utah will miss Colonel Lewis and his staff of fine officers. We do hope, however, that when this conflict is won that some or all of them will again return to our state to make permanent residence. -- day-lon- Alias Summons The Christmas KAYSVILLE shopping season is here even though the weather is still warm.
