Owners who have not filed should do so to protect their water rights in any particular area. T II. state engineer, said Securwater of rights is an important ing factor in determining land values, he pointed out. It is necessary for the state engineer to know of existing rights when considering new filings. Moie than lli.ooo underground water claims have been filed since pasThe filing sage of the law in fee is $2.50, and when a claim is once filed it becomes a permanent record. No refiling will be required for any one claim. Intent to Abandon Although there are still a number of wells on record and unaccounted for by claim, it is believed owners have failed to claim in many instances because the wells have no value. Failure to file claims, according to state law, is evidence of intent to abandon. In order to clear the records, owners of worthless wells are asked to file a certificate of abandonment with the state engineer, and at the same time receive instructions for plugging the wells. Unless a claim is filed for a well, and a right to the water estab-- . lished, it should be permanently plugged to prevent waste. In plugging a well the water should be shut off at its source by a wad of burlap, or by dry concrete, sacked ahd rammed tightly into place, the top filled in with cement and sand. In filling a wet well the filling from the wad is made up of clay, sand and gravel. 9 jnem-bers-a- . - 28-2- FARMINGTON Davis county fuir officials, meeting at the court house here Wednesday afternoon, selected committees to act in formulating plans for the annual ex- - . ,rill conduct and public buildings; Ashdown, landscape planning; Joseph L.
