It can and will solve the breeding problems of this county. In the esse of' the farmers of this county, a farmer may use a Jersey bull one year, a Holstein bull another, and in too many cases an inferior bull of no definite breeding. If the farmers of the county would takt the money that they with four or five other neighbors flow have Invested in ordinary bulls for service and buy one purebred bull capable of increas-n- g the production of their herds, the increase in production would pay for the bull in a very few wears. A fact which many farmers of the West do not realize is that they are paying for good breeding whether they are getting it or not. Many farmers through the bull association plan are now getting the best possible breeding in many cases at less than one dollar per cow per year. A group of four or five farmers make up a group or "breeding block" together with three to five similar blocks and thus form the foundation of a cooperative bull association. The association thus organized buys a bull for each block, at the end of each two years. the bulls are mowed or rotated until each bull has been in each block r for a period. The bull association prowides the small dairyman, as well as the larre breeders, with the use of high-clapurebred bqjls for a period of six to twelve years st an average cost below that of a cheap and inferior scrub. Figures from three typical asocia tlonx show thia. In ore association four 1278 bull were purha-e- d at an aver re cost of fi2 prr farmer. In another association" it cot $73 per member for six $276 bulls. In a third association, at a cost of $213 per farmer, four $1230 bulls were perrhased. All ball as- sociations rgarired thus far in the western states have Wen organized on the cost of the b ils being prorated equally per cow and not prorated per fanner, or member. Thu in belonging to a bull association farmers psy a certain r mount per cow. With forty cows in a block, for instance. $10 per cow will raise $130 for each bull; and m a typical association of five blocks the farmer has for a period ef ten years the use of five $400 bulls for the eriginal investment of $10 Per cow. The members of the entire associstion limit the amount assessed per cow, but those in each block select the place for keeping the bull and arrange the block according to their own con- i opinion d.-ea- r th t pro-e- .t i nii ti i -- 1 , sit-tt- r - K tati "i h P ed -- cirruar ir lrf T '.ih exf'erursei 1.
