After the question had been thoroughly discussed, Francis H. Nalder presented the following resolution: Resolved: That inasmuch aj there seems to have arisen between tne Amalgamated Sugar company of Weber county and the Layton Sugar company ofJDavis county, a question as to whether or not both companies should solicit for and receive contracts for sugar beets for delivery at the points along the line of the Syracuse branch of the 0. S. L. Railway company, or "if both companies should' not, which one is best entitled to said district; therefore, as sugar beet growers of West Point, Syracuse and Gear field, and as such, interested parties in the settlement of tfie above mentioned question, we take the liberty to express ourselves to both companies. In the first place we acknowledge the service rendered in the past by the Amalgamated -- ugar company; and de express our appreciation for the considerate way in which they have received our beets, and their promptness and satisfactory way of settling for the same, and were it npt for changed conditions, it would have given us pleasure to have had our business relationship continued, But inasmuch as a company has been organized and a factory erected in our own county and much Tiearer our owrT district, we feel that to it we owe our first alligence, and as our intetrest demands our entire acregae be given to one factory or the other, rather than permit its division between the two, we therefore respectfully ask that the question he settled by you both agreeing that this territory be taken care of by the Layton Sugar company, After a short discussion on the resolution, it was moved and seconded that the resolution be adopted and was unanimously passed. A committee of eight was appointed to cover the three districts with cop- ies of the resolution and get the beet growers, who were not present at the if meeting, to sign the resolution they so desired and favored the same. Up to the time of writing there were a hundred or more signatures. William H. Wilcox, E. Henry Williams were appointed as a committee to present the results of the meeting ts and to send the resolution to the of the two sugar companies, and also to inform the management of the Layton Sugar company of an adjourned meeting for Monday, December 27th t l0 odock in the Nerth and wished them Davis High-scho- ol, to atend that meeting and come prepared to receive contracts and take care of any other business that may come before the meeting Regarding the loading of beets, etc. The writer congratulates the farmers of North Davis on the stand they have taken in uniting to support an industry in their .own county. Wilcox was appointed chairman of the meeting and E. Henry Williams, secretary. Mr. Wilcox stated the object of the meeting. This meeting was the outgrowth of a meeting called previously by the Amalgamated Sugai company, where there seemed to be a division among the farmers as to whom they should raise beets. Owing to the poor loading accomodations at the various points, the farmers thought it would be necessary for them to unite in order that loading facilities might be improved. If the farmers were divided neither company would be justified in putting in a dump for them, but by being united and all raising for one factory, their loading facilities could be improved. -- -- A prosperous farming and rich community in ths northwestern portion of Davis County.
