State Constitu -- tion Upon Which The People Will Vote November 4. V. W. ARMSTRONG ( By President of the Citizens Tax ReWsion League. ; No doubt the public has read tfie various articles pub lished by the Cache Valley Clearing House Association, which means the eight banks of the valley. After perusing all that has been written, there i oa doubt but what the publje has come to this one conclusion, lhat they are merely endeavoring to defend their position of paying 35 per cent of the original amount that the banka paid prior to 1929. We are now taking the liberty to .quote a few lines of the last paragraph of their last article published in both of our daily papers which is as follows : FINALLY. AFTER WAITING UNTIL A DAY OR TWO BEFORE THE TERMINATION OF THE STATUTORY PERIOD FOR APPEAL, THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ON MARCH 7th, 1930, PASSED A RESOLUTION DROPPING THE APPEAL AND ACCEPTING A CONTRIBUTION FROM EACH OF THE LOGAN BANKS AMOUNTING TO 35 PER CENT OF THE ORIGINAL TAX ASSESSED AGAINST THE CAPITAL STOCK OF EACH INSTITUTION. SUBSEQUENTLY A SETTLEMENT ON THE ' SAME BASIS WAS EFFECTED WITH THE BANKS THE COUNTY, VHOSE CASES BVISID 0F LOGAN-IHAD NOT YET GONE TO TRIAL. We trust our readers will not overlook that tha above So per cent was a CONTRIBUTION. Prior to last when the banks of the county were paying taxes at year the same rate the home owner, the farmer, and the merchant were paying, it was not a contribution, but since it was reduced to 35 per cent, it becomes A Contribution." , . Lincoln said, You can fool all the people part of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cant fool all of the people all of the time. . Let us leave the above thought now fer a few minutes and consider the claims of the Budge Memorial Hospital, which has been in the courts and about which there has been so much said. This committee has made it clear to the public at large, that prior to 1929 when the above hospital all-- of the rest-- of " th- ecitizens, it was fairing very well. It was making good when, they were able to set aside sufficient of its profits to add a 50,000 addition to its then splendid buildings. ! This committee has no complaints against the individuals of the hospital' nor its workmanship, for we are all friends living together and should be interested in each, others welfare, but as we loolrupon this establishment, it is practically privately owned, privately managed and is a most excellent home for the Budge Clinic to take care of its Patients from whom they collect regular dues for their This November the voters of Utah will cast their ballots on constitutional amendments which should be passed to open the way for tax reform which is vital to the prosperity and welfare of Utah. Under our present system', some groups hive 'enjoyed special tax privileges and exemptions. Naturally some of these groups and interests are selfishly seeking to perpetuate these and are waging a vigorous campaign to defeat the amendments. Under the pretence that they seek only to act quaint the people with'the facts, th'ey are asking questions, raisin&doubts in the minds of the people, picturing all sorts of direrel consequences which they allege would befall the state if the amendments should pass.
