After the first few events had been run off, the Loa gan cinder men esftablishcd as lead that grew comfortable the meet progressed. One conference record am: six state records were broken in the meet in the afternoon. The weather was ideal and the track in good condition, so that records were hung up with surpris ng frequency throughout the meet. The conference record in the pob vault was broken by Henry Webster of tle U. A. C. and Ike Young of the B. Y. U., who tied for first in the evevnt after g 3 2 ing over the bar at 12 feet inches. Both m;n bettered the state record of 11 feet 11 1 2 inches established by Webslv last year, and went higher than the conference record of 12 feet 1 inches established last year 2 at Boulder. Other records which were shattered were the bread jump, d the discus throw w, the mile and lday. iun,the javelin Watkins of the U hung up a new record in the broad jump wh.n he leaped 22 feet 9 inches, bettering the previous lf record by two and inches All the jumps in this event were spectacular Webster of the U. A. C. jumping 22 feet 6 inches and Lunt of the Aggies 22 feet 4 8 inches. Meith Maeser of the B. Y. U., shattered his owh record in the discus, throwing the plate 12G feet 5 4 inches. Bailey, who substituted for Malcolm Layton, the Aggie track star who was killed in an automobile accident last Wednesday night, ran a pretty race. 1-- 1-- 440-yar- n Anderson, Geddes and Furlong each ran their parts of the race in record time. The pole vault was the feature of the meet, Webster and Young holding the 1500 spectators breathless as the bar was placed at 12 feet 3 2 inches and both cleared it. Each? of the jumpers made an effort to clear it at 12 feet 6 inches in an attempt to equal the jump made last year by Webster, who went over the bar at 12 feet 6 inches in an exhibition after the conference meet last spring. S.x times each of the men attempted to vault the bar, sometimes missing it by a hair's breadth, but finally giving up after having broken the state and conference xecords. The surprise of the meet came when Pearce of the B. Y. U., d took first place in the dash, outdistancing Baker of the Aggies and Jewkes of the Utah team in one of the most thrilling racs of the day.
