Prof. Blackwelder is better fitted than most men to undertake this work of geological revelation. Born in Chicago about forty years ago he has pursued his geological studies all over the world, both as a business man and as a student. He was a member of the Carnegie Institute expedition to Spain in 1914 and has been research geologist for the East Butter Copper company and manager of the Tetofl Syndicate. He has been professor of geology in the universities of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Harvard, and now Prof. E. Blackw'elder holds -- that chair in the Leland Stanford , University. Prof. Blackwelders chief book, Regional Geology of the United States shows why Utah is so fortunate as to secure his services for the summer. He has been in Utah before and hasstudiecPthe5outherrr part of thestate and Idaho. Now with Logan as a center he will have an opportunity to study strategraphic subdivisions in northern Utah, a subject1- - which when interpreted by his experienced mind will prove to be of much economic value to the state. Prof. Blackwelder has organized and will give part of two courses, at the College. He has selected Prof. R. V. Knappen of Kansas University to cooperate with him in giving . these courses. One course will be an opening course in general geology which will appeal to all, and a second one which will be V a field study of the rock formations and physiographic features in Cache Valley, and .its vicinity. It is intended-fo- r vstudents who have some previous knowledge of geology, or at leasrttak-in- g general geology. A A ; lfl nn not b7ehTri'TIemiTi"y"sthffg3Re fkr(fW'NfbvCTDbeFfitrsai 2.
