There was a rather sharp frost on Monday evening and the next s of day many of the a were fearful that section this been had the crop ' large partof destroyed. Investigation showed however that this was not the case, with the larger fruit. The strawberries suffered consider ably and the cherries were hurt some, but on the whole no great damage was done. In the early morning the alfalfa around Logan looked rather bad but as the sun warmed things up the plants straightened up and when night came looked little the worse for the experience. In some parts of Cache however real damage was done to the alfalfa. fruit-grower- On Saturday next the Logan and .Mcndoij, teams of the Cache Valley League will play here. The game will be called at one oclock and will be played on the B. Y. C. grounds. Mendon has a very good team and is now one of the leaders of the League. It will make the Logan bunch go some to beat it, as it will have the full support of the home folks. Mendonites, in the past, have loyally supported their base ball teams and can be relied upon to do so this season. The Mifndon nine has some of the Peterboro and therefore boys in its line-u- p is able to present a good team. It was agreed at the start that Mendon should take in Peterboro too. Vera Cruz. Governor West issued a proclamation to day putting the Friars club which operates what is known as the Milwaukie tavern at Milwauk ie, Ore., under martial law, and ordered a squad of militiamen to proceed to the tavern and close it.
