Out celebration of the Fourth was planned to be tbe best ever held ia this part of tbe valley. The parade was a grand affair. .There were six floats "gotten up by .the committee, and they were beauties Willie Harris and Cbristabelle Petty were gotten up to represent George and Martha W asbington and their float was the first in the line. Next came the Goddess of Liberty, Mrs. H. A. Adamson, and thirteen little girls on a gorgeous float. Miss Jennie Rainey was the- next in line as Utah and this float was followed by those representing education, the states of tho union and our new possessions. Then followed our city fathers and' older residents in' car riages and these were followed by business and burlesque floats and a large number of private carriages. The programme at the square was very attractive and well rendered. Tbe b&nd,choir, and others favored the large audience with- sweet musie and the oration by Representative C. Z. Harris was patriotic and soul stirring! The recitations and toasts were excellent and the entire forenoon was highly enjoyable. The exercises during the afternoon consisted of sham battle, climbing greasy pole and numerous other sports which were highly enjoyable The single men did the married ones up in grand style at a game of has ball. Next came the horse races, bnt these were a failure. The first race was started but one rider was thrown, and then the city marshall forbid any more races in tbe city limits;and after some argument the races were stopped. The evening sport started in fine style, but while shooting the fireworks a frightful accident ocourred which cast a deep gloom over the entire celebration. In some manner one of the heavy pieces of in the hand of Alfred D. Hendricks, and "terribly lacerated the member. Medical aid was at hand but it became necessary to amputate tbe hand, at the wrist. Tbe sympathy oft the whole town for the unfortunate young man is being shown nokonly by words of condolence, but also in a substantial way.
