Secretary Alger doesnt appear to care any more about being consistent than he did about the welfare of the soldierB during the war. Several days before Congress adjourned, Alger announced that the junket he had intended tp conduct to Cuba and Porto Rico was off, because his official duties would prevent his leaving Washington. Of course, it was well known that Alger abandoned the intended junket because he failed to get a sufficient number of Democratic Senators and Representatives to accept invitations to accompany him. But for consistencys sake, it was supposed that Alger would remain on duty and make a bluff of being busy. Not he. He left immediately after Mr. McKinley did, for a trip to New England, which was extended to Cauda, and this week he is going to start for Cuba and Porto ...Rico,., .but. he wont carry any Congressmen with him. He says he is goiDg to pay the expenses of himself aud the two men who will accompany him, but it would require the vouchers for the payments to convincs the Thatcher Bros, Banking Co, Capital $150, 00000 Utah, Logan, DIRECTORS t G. If any proof were needed that Mr. McKinley isnt in the South solely for rest and recreation, it is furnished by the fact that he will, during the present week, meet Czar Reed in person, on Jekyl Island, where Mr. McKinley will be the guest of Bliss, and Mr Reed will be the guest of a rich Wall street, banker; both at the same club house. It is stated by Mr. Reeds friends that the meeting is his idea, and that he intends to compel an immediate show down on the part of Mr.- - McKinley' that will make the position of the administration on the Speakership of the next House, perfectly clear. The queer part of the whole business is that two men' who have spent tbe win ter within a stones throw of each other, in Washington, should find it necessary to meet in Spring, on an island off th& coast I was afflicted for seventeen months,'' writes Mrs. Elisabeth J. Bullard, of Winnie, Bladen Co., N. C., in a significant letter to Dr. R. V. Pierce, of Buffalo, N. Y. I mi confined to the house and yard all the time. 1 could not be on my feet but a very little. I could not lift the weight of a cup of coffee; and did not have strength to peak more than a few words at a time. We tried three doctors and a lot of patent medicine which cost over one hundred and twenty-fiv- e dollars; and I found no relief. I had lost all hope of ever getting any better when my friends advised me to take Dr. Pierce's medicine. My husband said we would try that next. He got me five bottles of ' Favorite Prescript ion and three of 'Golden Medical Discovery.' X commenced taking these medicines and soon found relief. When I had taken one bottle of each I walked half a mile to church. I commenced taking it the first of January 1S97; the first of the following June I took my cooking in hand and have cooked for eleven in family all through the cummer. It was .Dr. Pierce's medicine that gave me all the relief I have received. I recommend it to all suffering females, for it is his medicine and the help of God that has restored me." Every suffering woman in this land should write- to Dr. Pierce and learn how certainly he can help her to .health and strength.
