The Doughnuts Mother Used to t few lines from me would be of interest to. the readers of The Journal, I herewith Bend them. I received a call to go on & mission" to the Northern States August, 25th 1896.'.; I was unable to go when called, so wrote to President Wil ford Woodruff and asked him if I could postpone my departure until the follQwin&fpring, I received au answer to my letter, and it was agreeable, to the President. The winter passed and spring come, and my time soon arrived to depart from my loved ones and go on a mission. I left-m- y home in Logan on Ihezoth day of April, 1897. I spenlr a few days in Salt Lake City, then went on mjr journey to the great city of Chicago, where the mission office of the Northern States mission is located. When I arrived there I received my appointment, and was appointed to travel in the State of Wisconsin. My companion, Elder John J. Simmons of Morgan city, and., I were assigned to labor in the little city of Waukesha, which has a population of about 6,000. I can say that we met a number of friends on the one hand, and , a number of. enemies on the other. The people of the little city thought Mormonism was a thing of the past; . nevertheless we made a house to house visit, distributing tracts and talking with the people when an opportunity presented itself. Elder Simmons and I opened up the mission in the citv of Racine which has a population of about 30,000. We also met a number of friends there, and found a few honest hearted souls who believed the gospel as we taught it, and accepted the same; and today they feel to thank God, for sending his true servants to them and revealing to them the gospel of Jesus Christ, which has again been restored on the earth for the benefit of the human family. The little city I am now labor ing in has a population of abont 7.000 composed of many different sects. There are about 4,000,outof the 7.000 do not belong to any church; so I am inclined to believe that this is a pretty good field to work in although the people do not care much for Mormonism. In onr weak way we'are trying to get the plan of life and salvation before thepeople, that in the day of judgment the people can .be left without an excuse. Well, I can say I am enjoying my mission thus far, and I feel to thank God for the grand - privilege I have of being counted worthy to be called in the Lords vineyard to preach the gospel to a dark and benighted people. Lam enjoying the best of health, which I am thankful for. s Anyone having friends or relatives in this part of the country, and wishing the Elders to call on them, please address, Elder L. T.
