Show -- jTi wimp mjinp iiit'H l r,n p J3 Wednesday, December 3, 2003 Vernal Express Maurices charity drive begins For the third consecutive year, the national fashion retailer Maurices is again offering a holiday ornament available in its retail locations with all proceeds from the ornaments sale being donated to charities. Each of Maurices more than 420 stores will choose a local community organization to receive the ornament sales donation. Vernal Maurices manager Courtney Westwood says that locally close to 200 of the ornaments Weve have been purchased. already sold our first shipment and have ordered more," she says. The metallic star ornament is about 2 12 inches by 2 12 inches and is dimensional. Causes to receive the donations nationally range from food pantries to shelters. Maurices has also donated directly to the National Chapter of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and has raised more than $50,000 over the past two years. The ornaments cost $1 each and will be on sale from Thanksgiving throughout the holiday season. Since its inception, the program has raised more than $100,000 with every dollar raised being donated to charity. Last year, civic organizations like the Lions and Rotary clubs purchased the entire inventory of ornaments to help out causes in their communities. He enjoys woodworking and fanning. Barbara worked as a school teacher in Vernal until she retired. She enjoys bowling and farming. The Meeks have four children: Ray (Laurie) Meeks of Vernal, Sandra (Sherwin) Cook of Bluebell, LeeAnn (Jim) Baker of Ballard, and Robert (Kathy) Meeks of Mountain Transportation will be provided if needed. There is no chaige for the movie and everyone is invited to attend. McKeachnie expects tew changes as Lt. Governors wife The groom is the son of Kathy Lazzell and Buck and Betty Lazzell of Vernal. He is the father of Mellissa Lazzell of Vernal. He is the brother of Marsha (Chris) S. of Logandale, Nev., and of Renita (Chris) A. of Parachute, Colo. He is with employed currently Schlumberger. Gayle McKeachnie. doesnt expect it to be much different from the life she has been leading for many years. As the lieutenant governors wife, McKeachnie said her role will mostly be low key. Although she is still a little uncertain about what to expect, she thinks her main role will be to support her husband by accompanying him to things such as social functions. She is already planning on spending most of the month of December in Salt Lake City to attend various Christmas gatherings. McKeachnie will be free to spend more time in the state capital with her husband because there will be little or no extra strain on life at home. The couple currently has two sons living at home. Both are out of high school and are working while attending Utah State University Uintah Basin. Another son and his family recently moved onto the family farm to help take care of everything while his parents are spending time in Salt Lake City. McKeachnie does not feel that her husband's appointment as lieutenant governor puts any extra pressure on her. She said he has been in the limelight for most of their marriage, adding that she already knows most of the people she will be associating with at government functions.
