Show I 1 2 Winter Discover Dinosaurland 2003-200- 4 Snowmobilers enjoy over 250 miles of trails Northeastern Utah's spectacular Uinta vistas, and the Mountains, modern facilities make Dinosaurland a snowmohiling wonderland. Over 250 miles of groomed and ungroomed trails ranging from 7,300 to 11. 000 feet in elevation climb over high mountain passes, run through gorgeous alpine meadows and offer the rider breathtaking views from countless vista points. Reservation Ridge Trail Access: Trailhead is located 28 miles south of Duchesne at junction of U.S. 191 and Road No. 147 that leads to Avintaquin Campground. 44 miles Mileage: 22 miles one-waround trip. Trail is not groomed or marked. Trail description: The route climbs a short distance to Avintaquin Campground (elevation 9,100 feet) then travels westward along the rolling ridge to the head of Timber Canyon. The route affords some magnificent views of the High Uintas and Wasatch mountain ranges. Timber Canyon is not recommended for snowmohiling due to curving roads and potential snow drifts. Return to trailhead by same route. Snow conditions on this route can change rapidly due to exposure and winds. Blind Stream Trail Access: Trail may be accessed from either end. Rock Creek Trailhead can be reached by taking UT 87 north to intersection of Road No. 134, three miles north of Hanna. Park on side of road. Mileage: 16 miles one way. The route is not groomed or marked. Trail description: From the south, you must stay on the road for the first three miles until reaching the forest boundary because you are bordered by private land. After reaching the boundary, route climbs gradually to an elevation of 10,200 feet where rolling hills afford a challenging encounter with powder. The route then becomes winding, and steeply descends six miles to Rock Creek trailhead, elevation 8,000 feet. Hells Canyon Trail Access: Trailhead is located 43 miles northwest of Roosevelt. Take UT 87 to Mountain Home, then Road No. 1 19 north to Yellowstone. Unload snowmobiles and park at Yellowstone ATV trailhead. Mileage: Approximately nine miles. Trail is not groomed or marked. Trail description: Trailhead elevation is 8.000 feet. Trail goes through Hells Canyon before reaching Center Park. There is a large meadow area at 10,600 feet that borders the High Uintas Wilderness Area. Snowmobiles are not permitted in the Wilderness Area. Return to trailhead via same route. Chepeta Lake Trail Access: Trailhead is at Snake John Spring, 1.5 miles north of Elkhom Guard Station. Mileage: 20.5 miles. The trail is not groomed or marked. Trail description: Snake John Spring is at 7,700 feet. Trail follows Farm Creek Road, No. 117, and is steep at the start before becoming more gradual. Go 10 miles to 1 junction with West Fork Road, No. 10, at Pole Creek Campground ( 10, 20 feet). Trail turns right and climbs gradually to Chepeta Lake, elevation 10,560 feet. y, Snowmobile trails offer way to see the back country. Mosby Mountain Trail Access: There is no provided trailhead. Turn on Mosby Mountain just east of Lapoint and travel north until there is enough snow. Unload snowmobiles and park on shoulder of road. Mileage: 24 miles. Trail is not groomed or marked. Trail description: Trail follows Road No. 104 and begins with a steep climb near the National Forest boundary after which the ascent becomes gradual as the trail passes through lodgepole pine forest with intermittent sagebrush openings and meadows on its way to Paradise Guard Station. Campground and Reservoir, elevation 10.000 feet. Taylor Mountain Trail Access: Trailhead is located on Taylor Mountain Road at Ashley National Forest boundary, 10 miles north of Maeser. Please park vehicles off the road. Mileage: 9 miles to junction of East Park Loop Trail. Trail is marked with orange diamonds. Trail Description: Trailhead elevation is 7.000 feet. Trail follows road No. 004 through lodge pole pine and aspen forest with intermittent sagebrush openings. Climb in elevation is steep at the beginning, but gradual for the most part. East Park Loop Trail Access: Trailhead is located at junction of East Park Road No. 020 and U.S. Highway 191, 18 miles north of Vernal. Mileage: 32.5 miles round trip. Groomed trail is marked with orange diamonds. Trail description: Trailhead elevation is 8,200 feet. Trail follows East Park Road No. 020 21.5 miles past the turnoff to East Park Campground and climbs gradually through lodgepole pine forests to an elevation of 9,350 feet to Trout Creek Guard Station junction. Turn left on Red Cloud Loop Road No. 018 back to trailhead. There is one winding steep ascent and descent at Big Brush Creek, which is located midway in this last trail segment. East Park-Oak- s Park Trail Access: Trailhead is at Cart Creek Parking Area, 25 miles north of Vernal on U.S. 191. Mileage: 10 miles. Trail is not groomed, but is marked with orange diamonds. Trail description: Trailhead elevation is 8,200 feet. Trail begins with a steep climb. Ascent becomes more gradual as it travels westerly on Highline Trail No. 025 through lodgepole pine to East Park Reservoir. There it follows trail No. 070 to Oaks Park Reservoir. Carter Road Trail Access: There is no provided trailhead. Snowmobile on the East Park Loop Trail and Leidy Peak Trail until you reach Summit Park, four miles west of Trout Creek Guard Station. Mileage: 25 miles. Trail is not marked or groomed. Description: The elevation at Summit Park is 9,800 feet. Trail descends gradually through lodgepole pine forest and meadows to Young Spring Park where it joins with Don Hatch Memorial Trail. Brownie Canyon Trail Access: There is no provided trailhead on the south end of this trail. Snowmobile to Trout Creek Guard Station as explained for the East Park Loop Trail, 21.5 miles from Highway 191. Mileage: 25 miles. Trail is not marked or groomed. Trail description: Trail descends gradually from the trailhead (elevation 9,350 feet) and passes through sagebrush openings and meadows. There are some winding, steep areas on the south part of the trail. Leidy Peak Trail Access: Snowmobile 21.5 miles to Trout Creek Guard Station as explained for the East Park Trail Groomed Mileage: nine miles, one-watrail is marked with orange diamonds. Trail description: Elevation at Trout Creek Guard Station is 9,350 feet. Trail follows road No. 043 through lodgepole pine forests with intermittent openings and meadows and climbs gradually to Hacking Lake (11,000 feet) located at the base of Leidy Peak. Elk ParkDon Hatch Memorial Snowmobile Trail System Access: Trailheads are located at McKee Meadows, eight miles south of U.S. 191 and Utah 44 junction; 26 miles north of miles Vernal, Flaming Gorge Lodge-- 4 south of the dam on U.S. 191, Red Canyon Canyon Lodge or Overlook-Re- d Road off of Utah 44, the Mooses Ponds-9.- 5 miles north of U.S. 101Utah 44 junction; 19 miles south of Manila, Ashley National Forest boundary on Forest Road 221 along Birch Creek; 7.5 miles south of McKinnon, Wyo. Mileage: Approximately 60 miles. Trail is groomed and marked with orange diamonds. Trail description: Trail goes through ponderosa pine forests in the northeastern sections with wide vistas of the north slope of the Uinta Mountains. The eastern side of the trail parallels U.S. 191, Utah 44 and the Red Canyon Road. A spectacular view of Flaming Gorge Reservoir is available at Red Canyon Overlook. The remainder of the trail is through lodgepole pine and aspen forests with occasional open parks and meadows. The northwestern portion of the trail, west of Deep Creek Road Utah 44 junction, is on gated forest roads and is used also by cross country skiers. y. |
