Show Wednesday, May 14, 2003 Vernal Express A1 1 Naples family Splash Park opening The Naples Family Splash Park opens its doors to families and children of all ages for the 2003 summer season Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. The spring hours, which will run until May 31, are Monday through Friday, 3:30-- 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. The entrance fee is still $1 for children and parents and season pass rates are offered at a lower cost than last year at $50 per family or $20 per person. Season passes will only be available until June 13. The Naples Splash Park opened last summer at the site of the old Naples water slide, across from Naples Elementary. The play area consists of a series of ground level fountains, water cannons, water arches and a water spewing serpent. It is based on a pad in the shape of a dinosaur footprint. Piano students who participated in the annual Utah Music Teachers Association Spring Piano Festival yMT ipSaim ffestiiivall irecogiraoses staeonGs The annual Utah Music Teachers Association Spring Piano Festival was held at Uintah High School on May 9 with nearly 80 students participating. This is the 40th year for the Festival which now includes students from throughout the Uintah Basin. Eleanor Marshall and Jacqui ir the event. King Julia Squires, daughter of Lorin and Carolyn Squires, was awarded the UMTA Student $300 Scholarship for a Uintah High School Senior. Julia began her piano studies with Jacqui King when she was seven years old, and has played in the Spring Festival since second grade. The only time she did not study or compete was during the year that her family moved to Palestine. She plays music by many composers, says her favorite is Chopin, especially Prelude Op. 28, No. 15 hut (Raindrops). She sums up her feelings with a quote by Leonard Bernstein: Music can name the unnameahle and communicate the unknowable. After graduation, Julia plans to continue her studies at Utah State University in Logan. The adjudicator this year was Jeff Manookin who is a teacher, concert pianist, recording artist, composer and music critic for the Salt Lake reasoning and helps in other aspects of life. Tribune.
