True, no subscribe likes to stand there holding the line so long that he forgets his telephone number waiting for Central to decide to answer. Perhaps another operator or two might help. True, also the Telephone company, might, if they chose, build another line or two out V're, into the fastest growing community in Utah, and thus relieve the pressure which is increasing every week on the lines now in operation. Both these actions on the part of the Company would help relieve the telephone situation in this community. But the people themselves could do a lot toward relieving the phone problem. The secret is courtesy" on the part of one subscriber to another. This includes the use of the phone for business and necessary calls, but would prevent its use for gossipping and visiting, and especially the use of the phone by children in getting their lessons over the telephone from their neighbors, and in merely spending time listening in on the line to all oth rs. Busy jxuple, lime after time, have been forced to listen in to what sounded like mi much puppy talk user the line, letter suited to the shade of a lamp post, wide important matters, hke calling a doctor, or seeking urgent help on other things had to wait until these adolescents got through their funny stuff. Actually, tests have been made as to how long such folly can go on over the telephone, and one subscriber reports one half hour waiting for the use of the phone while all the time someones receiver was down and all you could hear was the radio in that home. Courtesy is a fine accomplishment, and solves most of the ills of social relationships, because it involves mainly the rule that we will treat others like we would like to be treated. Orems telephone problem would not be so acute if everyone tried that plan. . n. s 1 VARIIISIJ. yy has just returned from a months visit In Salt Lake City. She stayed with WEST Sherwin-William- s .
