Show uJIjr tlnia' of idjarmt Pabllabed weekly at Irovo, Utah, by the Sharon Cooperative Educational Kecreatlonal Association ft Orem. Printed by Utah Valley Pabllshtng Co., 67 North First West Street, Provo, Utah. Entered as Second Class Matter, October 8, 1937, at the Post Office at Provo, Utah, under act of March 3, 1879. Discovering America It seems so immaterial to me who discovered America. If Columbus is to be given the! honors, as we have done in America this week on Columbus Day, all very well. The important question is: Have YOU discovered America? Discovery is such an individual matter. Africa is the Dark Continent only to those who know nothing about it. Ask Mrs. Osa Johnson if it is a dark continent to her? But America remains an unknown land to thousands within its borders. But remember that travel does not open the eyes of the unseeing. People go to Europe and come back more ignorant than before they left, because their already set opinions are confirmed and they come back having seen only what they were looking for. When we move around America have we eyes that see, and ears that hear, and hearts that understand? Where in all the world can you discover such beauty as in America? Where can you discover such opportunities for culture, and development of heart and hand? Such industry? Such marvellous scientific research being dope? But how many people there are who live a blind life within the brain, seeking the satisfactions of the senses instead of the soul ; seeing the sordid things only because they lift not their hi rris in prayer or in other words never look up to the Giver of all these glorious and great gifts of a benificent Providence in this greatest of all lands, endowed with freedom and liberty as no other land has ever been endowed. After we have discovered America for ourselves, may I suggest that each, of us helps his neighbor to discover for himself his own land of Ameica. It will make the Utopia which so many envision across the sea, fade as does the nightmare of our childhood days. For with the real discovery of America we climb to the stature of true citizenship.
