Velum II 7,000 Population $900,000 Monthly Payrefl DRAGERTON, CARBON COUNTY, UTAH, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24. 1957 Tho First Xmas Tvas The Night Before Christmas A program The First Christinas was presented by Mrs. B. A. Black; kindergarten group. Friday evening, December 21st at the Seminary building. Those taking part were: Prayer, Myma Ungaro; Pledge Allegiance, Carter Preston; Song, Im A Little Teapot, Class; Story, Jesus Was Bom In Bethlehem, Penny Rasmussen; Song, Away In A Manger, Class; Poems, of Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds' While visions of Sugar-plum- s danced in their heads; And Momma in her kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap; When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters end threw up the sash, j n The moon on the breast of the snow. Gave the lustre of mid-da- y do objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted and called them by name; Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all! As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacl, mount to the sky; So up to the house-to- p the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of Toys, and St. Nicholas, too. And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof, As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes anc soot; A bundle of Toys he had flung on his fcack, And he looked like a pedlar just opening his pack. His eyes bow they twinkled! his dimples, how merry! His checks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! . His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; Die stump of a pipe held tight in histeeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He hid a broad face and a little round belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowlfull of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself, A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. Bui I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night! Holt, David Reynolds, Randall Van Cott; Song, Jingle Bells, Class; Musical Numbers, Loren Cullum. Last Thursday, December 19 at about 4 :30 p.m. a Utah Power and Light pole, near the slag dump of Kaiser Steel coke ovens, burned, and as it came down a long section of wire was destroyed. With this destruction the power for the East Carbon area came to an end. I was in the printing shop at the time opakqing film. The light went out on the light table. I wouldnt use the camera for there were no arc lights. The verityper, Coxheader and the press were silent and unoperative. I walked over to our home and the TV was silent. The stove was cold, the refrigerator was getting warm The ironer and the washer were just ornamental. Ther water heater could no longer heat the water. It was just a water container. I went to the phone but it also showed no signs of life. To many calls asking about the power stop had used up the reserve. Night came on and darkness settled on and in the homes. Hurried search brought out candles that were generally earmarked Christmas. For heavens sake take care of the utility people and their equipment. At the Price Armory on Satur- ion; Christmas is the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord. The fahiiliar Christmas story, found in St Lukes Gospel tells of Jesus humble birth. He was bom in a stall, laid in a manger and the first to know Him were the animals and the shepherds. St Johns Gospel tells mankind for it what this story means is the wondrous story of how God (The Word) became flesh and dwelt among us - God becoming man for us and for our salvation. This is the Incarnation. God became man. And the impact of the Incarnation continues throughout our Lords life, death and resurrection, and in His continual work in the world through His Body the Church and in the working of the Holy Spirit. Christmas, or Christs Mass,, is one of the two most important Christian festivities. The other is Easter. For these two sum up the Goodnews that God became man, died for uor sins, and rose victorious over sin and death. All communities are obligated to make their communions on Christmas. The Bishop of Utah has allowed the early Christmas Eve service be counted a Christmas communion. The late service is so scheduled that communions are made the first thing Christmas morning. Celebrations of Holy Communion will also be held at Trinity at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, the Feast of St. Stephen; Friday, The Feast of St John the Evangelist; Saturday, Holy Innocents Day. Services will be held on Sunday at 7:30, 9 and 11 a.m An 11 am celebration of the Eucharist will also be held on January 1, The Feast of the Circumcision of our Lord.
