Bracken Lee designating March as American Red Cross Month in Utah. Mrs. S. W. Marshall is publicity chairman: for Carbon county and Mrs. James Cassano is chairman for the East Carbon area. I urge all of our citizens to .accept the invitation of the American, Red Cress to join its ranks and to serve their fellow men in distress or need, wherever they may be, Governor Lee declared. .The go.vemor said that in a report received from the Red Cross, he learned the organization had assisted 12,268 servicement, veterans, or their families in Utah last year. This assistance included emergency aid, - communications, personal counseling on family problems and help in securing government benefits. Through the Red Cross regional blood center in Salt Lake City and cooperating chapters, 17,420 - . . , ' , An-kru- pints of blood were collected in Utah in 1954 for defense purposes and approximately 8,000 pints were provided for civilian patients in 29 Utah hospitals which serve 22 counties in the state, the governor stated. He said 10,450 residents of Utah were trained in first aid through the Red Cross last year. An additional 9,915 residents of Utah were given training in water safety skills, and 2,567 others received Red Cross home nursing training. When disaster strikes in various parts of our country, the Red Cross provides food, clothing, shelter, and special medical and nursing care during the emergency days and weeks that follow to help victims with long term aid that will restore them to, normal life, the governor pointed out. So that such help may .continue to be available in time of need, I am proclaiming the period from March 1 to 31, as American Red Cross Month in Utah, he con- eluded. ' V I . |
