A recent survey of maternal deaths which occurred in a large urban population center, showed that those patients who had no prenatal care or inadequate prenatal care comprised ninety-fou- r per cent of the maternal deaths on a series of 72 cases. It is interesting to note that most patients careless about their prenatal care, are women who have had more than one child. It is true, however, that most difficulties of pregnancy, labor and delivery occurin these women. All women who have had children must realize the need for adequate obstetrical care, and only with their cooperation can the maternal and infant death rate be fur- ther reduced. 1 i r r v ij & D tl in llir 1M Wi The Rt. Medical Records All-re- Prenatal Caro 7, 000 population Their Importance Your visit to, and your engagement of a physician, is usually prompted by a specific and rather recent complaint indicating some degree of ill health. No matter how serious the specific complaint, it most always has some bearing on your previous medical history, operations, and perhaps a history of significant illness occuring in brothers and sisters, mother or father. You may have noticed it is quite important to the physician in evaluating your complaint, and making a record of your visit, that he have information regarding your previous illnesses. Patients are requested to have some patience with the physician when he investigates a seemingly minor complaint and writes a good deal in his record of your visit. This record furnishes a complete and chronological history of your illnesses, and very often, it is this history and "picture story of your illnesses which aid him in making a complete over-a- ll diagnosis. The and laboratory work, physical examinations are always kept and may be referred to by the physician at your request at any time. When you visit your physician, try to help him by giving him complete histories on previous illnesses, operations, and the names and locations of your previous physicians. If your physician does not make a complete record at the time of your visit, request that he do so. They need protectionn against the dogs that are brought into the community, from other towns and turned loose to roam our streets in ever increasing numbers. Not only are these dogs, on the loose, destructive to growing plants but they are desecra-tor- s of the lawns on which our children play. Road maintenance is a present and qontinuous problem.
