Johnson Three out of the seven wrestlers that went to a wrestling tournament at South Summit came home with a medal Saturday, January 21. Lee Jones placed third in his weight division. Mike Jackson and Kevin Anderson placed fourth. The wrestling squad put in a full as day they left Randolph before 6:00 a.m. The wrestlers were expected to weigh in between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. The first session of wrestling began at 10:00 oclock. The matches continued without a break through 3:00 p.m. Eight schools: South Summit, North Sevier, South Rich, Duchesne, Panguitch, East Carbon, Hill Crest B, and North Summit participated in the event. Competition was the name of the game. Jones, a senior wr. '. tier at south Rich, took a close loss to competitor Marty Larson from South Summit 1 decision. Jones with a came through as he wrestling ability his three last opponents from pinned North Summit, Panguitch and North Sevier, to earn him the third place berth at the tournament. Jackson began his wrestling day by defeating his first opponent from Duchesne. His second match he lost 12-- 6 to Jenkins from North Summit. He next pinned his opponent, Rider, As Jackson from South Summit. went into the championship bracket he took a loss to Jackman. He earned 4th place at the tournament. first-yea- r Anderson, a heavy-weigh- t, senior wrestler at South Rich, came home with fourth place despite a recent bout with sickness. He began the day with a bye. In his second match, he was pinned by Leach from Panguitch. He handled his third opponent from South Summit with a pin. Serrano from North Sevier defeated Anderson in the championship bracket. In other tournament play, Brady Ellis lost his first match against North Summit, won his second match against Panguitch, and lost his third match against Hill Crest. Mike Hopkin lost his first against a tough opponent from Hill Crest. His second match proved to be a very close contest but he was unable to convert the match into a win. Senior, Dave Hopkin and first year wrestler, Brent Thomson, lost their first two matches to tough opponents from North Sevier and North Summit, and Panguitch and South Summit respectively. Flint Telford, still out with an injury, may be back with the squad for region play. Most of the wrestlers came home with at least one win against some tough competitors. Mike Hopkin came through with an impressive pin against his South Summit opponent. He lost to his North Summit foe by a pin. Mike Jackson lost in a decision, 13-to North Summit. He beat his South Summit opponent, 14-David Hopkin and Brent Thomson were pinned by their North Summit foes and lost in decions to South 5, 2. Womens s Aerobics go-arou- nd South Rich. Summit. The class will meet three times, a week; Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Randolph Hall. ages, sages, shapes and sizes are welcome. Children are welcome also.
