Cowpokes Comeback Bid Falls Short region but not the way we played today. But I think well be ready when it does come down to region time. We didnt do anything right all day, though." ML Vernon jumped on the hosts in the first two frames and held on for the one run victory. After 10 day layoff, Grantsville scheduled a tilt with Mt. Vernon to prepare the squad for the upcoming tough Region Nine competition. With a region opening double header just two days away. Cowpoke head coach Bill Mikelson thought his club would be ready to get down business. But after Friday 5 defeat at the hands of the Patriots, the GHS head coach is skeptical whether his club will be ready. Grantsville is scheduled to tangle with region rival Union Friday at 1 p.m. for a Region Nine double dip. Mike Lambson paced the Patriots with three doubles while Shawn Morrow added two doubles and winning hurler Rich Holland a double and single in the winning effort Gary Dalton led the Cowpokes with three hits, including a double, with Mike Ware belting two doubles and John Millward another two bagger. It was Mill-war- 6--3. In the seventh, Grantsville made it interesting when Jared Hunsaker walked and Dalton doubled to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Prep of the Week It takes a lot of fortitude and determination to remain a success in track. And most thinclads also have to overcome injury and adversity at one time or another in their cinder years.. Just ask Teresa Kampman. After winning every 200 meter race she ran in and qualifying for state, the Wildcat pulled a hamstring in the 100 meter dash preliminaries and hurt her chance of a possible state title. This season, the Wendover sophomore has been hampered with a nagging case of tonsilitis all year long which has affected her times. Still, the determined Kampman overcame the swollen glands to garner three second place finishes and a third to help pace the Lady Wildcats to a third place in the team standings at Thursdays Region Eleven track meet at Weber State. But the most significant result was that she ran three races in and gave her all to finish with a second place time of 28.44. The next girls event was the 1600 meter relay where the same Wildcat foursome this year set a region record in the event last year at this meet So trying to break the record they set a year ago, Kampman decided to compete in her third consecutive event The relay team managed a third place with a 4:53.49. All in all, with the 100 and 200 preliminary and finals, and the two relay events, Kampman participated in six races in the entire afternoon and managed high marks in all of them. If Kampman manages to return to last years form where she won the region and Nephi 200 meter dashes and helped set a region record in the 1600 meter relay, the Wildcat might just pull off a state title in this weekends 1A state track championship at state track championships Saturday Wendover fleldman, Lance Dahlstrom Is looking forward to the 1A-2BYU.
