In defense to a criticism made about the county not subsidizing the hospital, Commissioner Chick Stromberg said that Tooele is a bedroom community of Salt Lake and that a recent report shows 67 percent of local residents go to Salt Lake for medical needs. The commissioner stressed Tooele does not have a captive population that is supporting the hospital. He said trends show medical needs are purchased where the consumer regularly shops. He further said that if it were put to the Tooele voter about subsidizing the hospital, the measure would not have a chance. Commissioner Stromberg added that recommendations urge counties with county-ownehospitals, to sell out and let the private sector take over. He said he did not think the county can tax the taxpayer for subsidizing the hospital. d said the implementation of plan one is considered a short-tersurvival strategy that will permit planning time for longer strategies. He also said both plans are ony suggestions and now time should be taken for physicians to digest the information and make Mr. Rock ' their recommendations to the county commission.
