If this sounds like you, the Utah Heart Associations "Slim for Life class can see you through January and February and into March. behavior modificaThe tion program, which has helped thousands of Utahns lose and keep off unwanted pounds, begins in Tooele and Grantsville on January 19. The class provides a series of small steps, or behavior modifications that make dieting easier as well as motivation and encouragement to help keep you going. "A typical goal is to lose 10 pounds in a month, or not eat dessert ever again, says Susan Ward, R.N., Utah Heart Associations Nutrition Director. "We help people set reasonable goals, and be tolerant of themselves when they slip. One mistake then does not lead to a fullblown relapse!" The dietitian calls this occurance the "all or nothing trap. "Changing eating behavior is like learning to ride a bike, she says. "You learn from 'falls and keep doing better." Topics presented in the one hour sessions include: taking control, choosing how much and what to eat, going places and doing things without food, starting an exercise program, cooking ideas, eating out and controlling emotional eating. Classes will be held in Tooele at the Tooele County Courthouse, 47 South Main Street, on Thursdays from 5:30-6:3- p.m. 0 The Grantsville class will be held at the Grantsville Senior Center, 87 W. Main, Grantsville on Thursdays from 4:00-5:0- p.m. 0 Class Offered Both men and women are- invited to join but the session will be limited to 25 people. A minimum of 15 people is necessary to continue the class. Participants lose an average of 15 pounds during the 10 week program. The charge for the class is $40. This cost is reduced to $30 for - immediate relatives of someone paying the full price. A refund qf $20 is available at the completion of the course. $10 will be refunded for perfect attendance and $10 is rebated for losing 15 pounds or reaching your ideal weight.
