According to Rep. Hansen, applicants must be legal residents of the First District of Utah, at least 17 years of age, but not past their 22nd birthday on July 1 of the year of admission, citizens of the U.S., unmarried and have no children. In order to make the January 15, 1984, application deadline, the SAT and ACT tests must be taken early in November of 1983, if applicants have not already taken these tests. Congressman Hansen said that selections are based on SAT and ACT scores, class rank, grade point average, school records, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, motivation and recommendations.
