In addition $6 billion or more wiQ be spent on dotl accettor-let- , licenced product, and tbe hearts of their own, says photographer Tom Keiiey explaining the popular fascination. Mr. Kelley has himself devoted the last six years to creating photographic portraits of Victorian dolls. Like the Wizard of Oz, Mr. Keiiey points out that " . . . a heart is not judged by how much you love, but how much you are loved by others. After all," laughs Mr. Kelley, dolis have received so much love from so many for so long, they must have hearts." A newly created line of Kelley Collection doll products from Workman Publishing is designed to appeal to both young and old The Dolls Notepad, Dolls Calendar 1984, Dolls Postcard PortfoUo, Dolls Address Book and Dolls Diary are all adorned with Mr. Kelley's loving portraits. Selecting his models from private collections of dolls manufactured at the turn of the century, Mr. Kelley offers examples of the Golden Age of Dollmaking. He includes dolls crafted by the prestigious German and French films of Emile Jumeau, Bru Jeune et Cie, Hammer & Reinhardt, Simon and Halbig, J.D. Kestner Company, and A. Thuillier of Paris. The precious jewel-likdolls Mr. Kelley currently focuses on are quite different from his previous, perhaps models. Mr. Kelley is best known for his doll-lover- e, photographs of Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and numerous movie stars even Marilyn M onroe who appears in Mr. Kelleys famous 1947 "Golden Dreams nude calendar study. Quips Mr. Kelley, Tve always been fascinated by beautiful women, so for me Victorian dolls were a natural subject. Victorian dolls are renowned for their beautifully crafted heads of unglazed porcelain (bisque). Doll-make- rs fired the bisque heads in kilns and then painted them with blushing cheeks, long eyelashes and rosy lips.
