This is a good question, as youve no doubt seen many commercials on television advertising the nonelectric carpet sweepers. These were popular long before vacuums, but seem to be making a reappearance today. You may wonder just what to expect from one and whether or not it would be worth the small investment. do a good enough job , The sweepers would probably for you if you dont try to use it in place of your vacuum. If you only use it for emergency pick-u- p or when youre in a hurry and want to whisk over the carpet, it would be alright. But there are potential problems for your carAs peting if you use it regularly instead of the vacuum. Ive mentioned before, its the deep down soil that damages your carpets. When this isnt removed it cuts the fibers just like sandpaper, causing premature wear. As the carpet sweeper isnt designed to be able to get other than the surface soil, you would be leaving this deeper soil in the carpet to wear the fibers. So be sure to continue your regular vacuuming habits to extend the life of the carpets. It takes longer, but your investment in your carpeting makes it well worth your time. With so much entertaining this time of year, spills are a common problem. So be sure to keep plenty of cornstarch on hand. Wipe up as much of the spill as possible. If you have time, you can use a mild detergent to gently wipe at the spill. One teaspoon in a quart of water is about right. Then after this, wipe gently at the area with a cloth with only clear water to remove as much of the soap as possible. If youre not sure you got all of the spill, liberally apply the cornstarch to the entire area and leave until completely dry. Then vacuum, and most spills will be absorbed into the cornstarch. If you dont have time to treat it with the detergent, wipe If up as much as possible and apply the cornstarch. can heard without Ive cornstarch, you youre caught substitute salt, but as I havent used it myself, I hesitate to recommend it. But it would be better than nothing. Just be sure to react to the spill immediately - remember, the longer you wait the more likely it will become a permanent stain.
