Carvalho, program director and professor of management. "Statistics from the federal governf ment indicate that more than of all small businesses fail in the first one-hal- he says. "One underlying cause is that many owners simply don't have an adequate understanding of basic business principles. The course which will be offered during winter and spring quarters -meets once a week for eight weeks and includes practical discussions with faculty and successful businessmen. BEYOND THE classroom instruction, Carvalho says students receive assistance in preparing a detailed analcurrent business ysis of their firms position from MBA students and personnel from the college's Small Business Development Center.
