BOB BEAMON The most incredible feat in the history of sport took aliout six seconds. That's all the time Bob Beamon needed to sprint 19 strides down the runwav, take flight and soar 29 feet, inches in the long jump at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. In a sport where improvement is measured in fractions of seconds and inches, Beamon broke the world record for his event bv almost two feet! It has been expertly estimated that, to match his achievement, a miler would have to run 3:43, a high jumper would have to clear eight feet and a shot putter would have to throw across the Delaware River at its widest point. s Meet Monica Angela who was bom on July 20, 1977 at CottonRECORDS wood Hospital.
