Busing An Air Conditioner? This is the summer when an appliance tai will help consumers t an air conditioner. The tag Rises the elfniencs ratio i T It of the unit, expressed as a single nimilier. Hie higher the l.illt the mine effluent the air conditioner and the lietter tins it is too. High HKIt means more cooling cauuly for the money . and since the model reipnrcs less muer, it costs less to run it -- saving Inith energy and intmev. TO CAI.CIT.A1K THK COST OK OlKK STING AN AIK CONDITIONKK. thru- - figures are m isled: 1) Cost of electricity per kilowatt. 2) Annual hours of air conditioning needed. 3) Watts per hour required. The local utility can supply the first two; the third should lie obtained from the model or the salesman. Let's say an air conditioner in the S.000 HIT' class is needed. A model with un KKK of 8.9 needs 900 watts. A less efficient model with an KEK of 6.2 needs watts but costs $10 less; 8,000 hours of air conditioning w ill lie needed at a cost of 4c per kilowatt. To determine the cost of oeration, use this National bureau of Standards Formula. Multiply exist of electricity tunes hours of cooling needed times watts required bv the air conditioner. Divide by 1000 to get operating costs in dollars. ANNUAL COST for running the more efficient mode: 4c tunes 800 times 900 equals 28,S(K) or $2S.Mh ANNUAL COST for running the less efficient mode: 4c times 800 times 1300 equals 4 1.600 or $ II .60. You can save $14.80 per year in oerating costs on the more efficient model. In three years, you will save the $10 difference in purchasing price. selix I UMTtf SHERBET (By Norma Dean) ?1P)V' flooPQM 1 C orange juice 4 C lemon juice ' S&oip3.V oXOdkidS is - gPlgS SO 4ULV I771 24 C pineapple juice (unsweetened) 4 C sugar 1 Qt. whipping cream (not whipped) MIX TOGETHER INCREDIENTS Add milk to 2" from top of freezer If desired, you may add fresh fruit in season (2 cups) blend in blender Freeze. PROP Keebfeip u)rra Hf (W The outdoor covered grill makes summer entertaining easy and important, too, when the menu features roast turkey. Using the grill keeps the kitchen cool and lets the cook be outdoors. An unstuffed turkey requires less cooking time when prepared in a covered grill, so after about 2A hours a 12 to 14 pound bird can be checked for doneness. The outdoor feast can be completed by serving summer vegetables cooked in foil on the grill. A casserole of sliced zucchini squash, tomato and onion will require about 45 minutes. Favorite breads and fresh fruits will balance the meal. After the feast, leftovers may be no problem since turkey is a summertime favorite. A good way to use the leftover meat is in a cucumber cool turkey salad. It makes a refreshing luncheon dish for family or guests.
