Economics Is Taught By Simulated Game Marketplace, a simulation game for high school students developed by Security Pacific National Bank, Los Angeles, to demonstrate how and why the American economic system works, is being distributed nationally. The game puts students into the shoes of retailers, manufacturers and bankers in order to teach economic theory through student involvement. Marketplace is intended to help the teacher make economics relevant. It uses simple game transactions for examples of the dynamics of economic concepts, rather than citing cases distant from the classroom and beyond the experience of the average student. Twenty to 50 students may participate in the game. After being tested in classrooms and teacher workshops throughout the United States, Marketplace is distributed nationally by The Joint Council on Economic Simply invest $500 or more in First Security Bank subordinated notes.
