Hubert C Lambert State Engineer . (Published in Tooele Transcript, Tooele, Utah on Aug. 15, 22, and 29, 1969) The Tooele Transcript, Fri., August 22, 1969 The problems of the first aid were set up by Dr. Dee Dickson from Weber County and were similar to the type of injuries we could find in the mountains Tooele when we were on a search. Memliers of the County Sheriffs Jeep Patrol journeyed to Price, Utah to attend the Annual Convention of the Utah State Search and Rescue Association of which the Tooele unit is a charter member. TOOELE was represented at the convention by Commander and Mrs. Walt Shubert, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Murray, Mr. and Mrs. James Winchester, Clyde Allen, George Kramer, Deputy and Mrs. James Park, and Sheriff and Mrs. Fay Gillette. Association officers for the 1969 and 1970 year are as follows: Commander Merlin Walker, from Uinta County; 1st Vice Commander Ken Blackner from Iron County; 2nd Vice Commander Robert Smith from Utah County; Secretary, Stan Tebbs from Davis County, Purchasing Agent, Clen Assey from Beaver County, and Treasurer Ken Worden of Morgan County. The convention began at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 15. at the Carbon County Courthouse. Sheriff Albert Passic welcomed all Patrol members to Carbon County. The first business meeting was held at 1:00 p.m. in the Court House and at this time the officers for the coming year were nominated. During the time of the business meeting, the Carbon County Ladies entertained Auxiliary the visiting ladies at a luncheon held at the Price Elks Home. AT 3:30 P.M. the action moved to the City Park for the first aid contest. This year was the leginning of a new type of first aid contest. In past years first aid teams from each unit competed with each other and the competition became very specialized so this year each man that wanted to compete in first aid registered for the contest. The names were put in a hat and drawn on a random basis. The teams consisted of five men and were in most part from other patrols. . Each team performed three exercises and the work was done with the materials on hand. Tree limbs and jackets were used for stretchers. Belts, shoe laces, ties, etc., were used to tie splints in place. The State Association believes this type of first aid is by far superior for our work than the formal contests of the past year. THE WINNING team was composed of men from Vernal, Weber and Davis, Morgan, Provo. They had never had the opportunity of working with the other men liefore. This proves that a man trained in first aid can work with others to complete the task with the materials at hand. A steak cookout at the Price City Park completed the activities of the first day. Saturday was the pistol shoot, parade of vehicles, election of officers and the convention banquet in the evening. Uintah County produced the winning pistol team. Davis County the top individual shooter and the guest speaker at the banquet was Maxwell Rich of Sa'. Lake City. MR. ZENTNER E. D. Zentner Awarded Masters Degree E. D.
