Show ( The Tooele Transcript, Friday, January 0, 1967 Base Nuclear Particles Lost in Space Jetstream Offers Best Way Back e The diffusion of radioactive clouds is still a mystery to man according to a University of Utah scientist. Dr. S. K. Kao, professor of meterology says, "We really dont know what Jiappens to the small nuclear ,particles which are blasted into jthe stratosphere by atomic explosions. It may take yean for vthem to return to earth. DR. KAO is currently studyradioactive ing the large-scal- e diffusion under an Atomic Energy Commission research grant the .only extensive study of its kind In the country. The Utaji scientist wants, to loiow how a cluster of radioactive clouds resulting from a nuclear fission explosion-w- ill gradually spread out, how much material will return to earth, and its effects on humans. "We know a little, but not he said. "We can only much, predict what area a "hot cloud will cover within the first 24 hours. He said the AEC wants enoagh research data to be able forecasts-fro- m e to make two weeks to a month. All of Dr. Kao's research is being carried out by a Univac .1108 computer. He has established a mathematical model which will predict particle motion in the atmosphere. From this we can calculate and predict trajectories of the particles released at any given point in the atmosphere. We hope to build up enough climatological data to Kenneth Clair Lindquist, son of Mrs. Olive Horrocks, Tooele, recently completed flight officer training with American Airlines and has received base assignment at Dallas, Texas. Mr. Lindquist is married to the former Nancy Hacking, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hacking, also live in Tooele. The Lind' quists have four children. Mr. Lindquist served in the active Army for ten years and the - Mother Dies Funeral services for Mrs. Frances F. T. Smith were held Tuesday in the Logan LDS Second Ward. Mrs. Smith, who is the mother of A. D. Thomas of this city, died December 30 in Salt Lake City of causes incident to age. She was 87. Burial took place in the Richmond, Cache County Cemetery. In addition to Mr. Thomas, she is survived by other children, Eloise Daniels, Los Cruses, New Mexico; Owen F. Thomas, Magna; Utah National Guard for three years. He has been an Army aviator for nine years. He is a recent graduate of BYU, and served in the LDS Hawaiian Mission. and GOVERNMENT The art of good government consists chiefly of two things: doing what is best for the people, and convincing the people that this is what they really wanted.-Editori- al, Social Studies. He has developed his human powers and is able to use them and his understanding of the world to meet any new problem he has to face. He is prepared by his education to go on learning.
