The peas around the Pendleton area are sold to the Campliell Soup Company and those in the Walla Walla area are sold to the Green Giant Company. The peas are cut like hay and moved into rows. A loader lifts them up to a truck driven by a girl or a woman. The driver receives the same w ages as the men do but they hire a woman liecause they think women are more dependable. The truck is driven to a viner - where the vines are put on a belt and the shelled peas come out ready to lie taken to the quick freeze, where they are washed, frozen and slopped. The vines are stacked and packed down with tractors to make sileage. They took some peas home to freeze and cook and declared they were the I rest they had ever tasted.
