Show aa i Volume Setenly Tooele, I'tah, Friday, February 19, 196.1 County Teams Fight For Crown Friday Dugway and Grantsville will tangle Friday on (he Grants-vitl- e court in a unique contest for the Region title. A win by Dugway will cinch the Jordan Division championship for the Mustangs, while a Cowboy win will tie Dugway and Grantsville for the Region Championship. If this happens the two teams will hold a playoff game on a neutral court, probably Tooele's. on Tuesday, March 4 for the Jordan Division title. Adding to the uniqueness of the situation is the fact that two Tooele County high school teams are in a playoff for the region championship title. JORDAN DIVISION TEAM STANDINGS: W L Pci Team: 7 1 .873 Dugway 7 2 .778 Grantsville 5 3 .623 Tintic 3 4 .336 St. Joseph 3 5 .375 St. Marks St. Francis 3 6 .250 Utah Deaf School .... 0 9 .000 Friday games (Favored team in black type) Dugway at Grantsville Tintic at St. Francis St. Marks at St. Joseph The Tintic Minors upset the at Eureka TuesCowboys day night in a squeaker. This loss drops Grantsville to second place in the league standings and leaves Tintic in third place. Dugway, who drew a bye Tuesday find themselves in undisputed first place thanks to a determined band of Minors. GRANTSVILLE... who have been averaging over 70 points per game this year were held to a mere 46 as Tiniics zone de fense held them out from under the basket and their outside shots just wouldn't connect. Although the Cowboys were cold at the hoop the thing which proved their downfall was defensive errors on their own part. Several times they were caught flat footed as Tin-tic- s little men got behind them for easy Gary Sandberg was high man for the game with 17 points. Palmer added 13. Dick Sorenson had 13 for Tintic and received a lot of help from the entire Tintic squad. THIS LOSS for the Cowboys doesn't make this next Fridays game any less important as Dugways Mustangs invade the Cowboy corral! for the big game of the season. A Dugway win will cinch the Jordan Division Championship for the Mustangs so they have a lot to shoot for. BUT a Cowboy win will tie the two again and could mean a championship-playofon a neutral court (probably at Tooele, on Tues- -' day March 9) if the Cowboys can set settled in the saddle just right they have the guns to win this one. But, Dugway will be going all out for victory and this is the big one for the two Tooele County schools. The Tintic game was a thrill er with the score being close all the way. Grantsville jumped off to a good start and led at the end of the by first quarter. Tintic came back with a good second quarter to at half tie the score at time. The second half was much of the same as the lead changed several times but remained clos all the way. Tintic did jump out to a 3 point lead but the Cowboys chopped it down again. The score was tied again at 38 each as the third quarter ended. Denny Anderson had a chance to put the Cowboys In front with two minutes remaining as he went to the foul line twice getting two and missing two. With one minute remaining Beclrk of Tintic. wag fouled and went to the line for a one and one. He misted. Grants ville rebounded and called time 6 for out. The score read Tintic. Grantsville had the ball and S3 seconds to win the game. They passed around for : a few seconds and Nelson took it missed and the the shot game was over. Both coaches stayed with their starting five until the final minutes when Chambers of Tintic and An- -' derson of Grantsville fouled out 23-2- 47-4- BOX SCORES: .Number Thirty Stansbury District To Hold Banquet !S Cold Keeps Snow on Local Church Leader Charles Orme Dies Ground Temperatures in Tooele dropped to a low of 7 above Thursday night.
