Show Thr Tooelr Transcript. Friday. April 21. 1961 Stockton Happenings Aaragonite Marble Gaining Wide Reputation Tooele County Chamber of Commerce was told at their meeting Wednesday by G. E. Robert that the marble quarry at Aaragonite 40 mile wet of Tooele la gaining a national and International reputation for the unique quality of it marble. Operated by Utah Calcium Company aince 1950, the quarry la ahipping marble product to be used in terrato, fire place conitruction, roofing, landicup-ing- , and livestock feed product to many place in the United State and Canada. THE ONYX marble with it tranlucent qualitie and natural banding lend itself well to intenor decoration, the group was told. The deposit has been mined since before the turn of the century when it was a quarry whose products were freighted to Salt Lake City by wagon. Later, in 1912, the rock was shipped to Chicago, where novelty products and table top were made from it. It is now worked as an open pit mine with a plant that has crushing, grinding and packaging facilities that turn out a variety of products.
