The quoted statement of Governor Clyde that no decision will be made even on the tailings feasibility study will be made without a public hearing of all sides of the controversy is also encouraging. ; it is to be hoped that if a study is agreed upon it will be one which will include experts not only on soil mechanics but of water pollution and chemical engineering. and biology as well. The Great Salt Lake is more than a recreation area. It is a storehouse of vast chemical and mineral worth and its peculiar properties have biological significance to wildlife and human life around its borders. I Tooele's leaders will do well not to relax their vigilance in the matter but to make sure a thorough study of all phases of the problem are made including the proposal to dump tailings in the south end of the Great Salt Lake with its potential dust hazard.
