The Fourth of July Parade committee of the Tooele Volunteer Fire Department is deeply concerned about the possibilities of a successful parade for the Fourth of July, it was announced Thursday by Lionel Olsen, Parade chairman. At a committee meeting held Wednesday in the City Hall, the reports of the various committeemen as rather discouraging, everyone wants a grand parade, but very few are willing to participate. This has been a gala affair in the past years with the wholehearted support of most everyone in the community. Its a day of celebration and entertainment for the young and old alike. TOOELE'S FAMOUS MARCHING BAND will not be able to ipw II appear here because of previous commitments. They will parade at Provo, Utah, during their 4th celebration, which is being staged at the same hour as Tooele's parade. fWH.ni Gary Myers Gary Myers Funeral Sal. Al 1 P.M. I 23, 1961 V agf The committee have also been notified that permission to hold the parade on the Main Street of Tooele, must first be obtained from the State Road Utah Commission. Also the fire department must assume and be liable to the Road Commission for any damage to the highway as a result of the equipment, horses, etc., entered therein. The department does not want to assume this responsibility, thus it may be necessary to route the parade down First West to the City Park. A recent case in this regards was the filing of a claim by the State of Utah against the Government for damage to the road on Armed Forces Day, last month, by heavy equipment on display in downtown Tooele. THE SUCCESS of any parade depends on the cooperation of the townspeople. We need floats, we need bands, we need the military, Mr. McMurray we need the kids with their pets, their bicycles, their little red wagons, their halloween costumes, anything to add to the parade.
