The reason the property was purchased in the first place, said Howarth, was that the county wanted to exchange the six acres with the Department of Wildlife Resources for property DWR owns. That property could be used as a gravel producing pit by the county road department. "They said the property we wanted was winter deer grange and they would not exchange it, said Howarth. However,, the county has not given up hope and would still like to make the exchange in the future therefore, the county is not interested in allowing Shepherd to buy the property back. Shepherd will fence the property on the south and east so that his cattle will not get out to run loose. The highway does have an excellent fence which will serve to keep the cattle off the roadway.
